Well that was interesting. It had a Percy Jackson feel to it, with each boy traveling around getting into odd adventures with their satyr/dwarf best bud Grover/Gonzo. It was mostly entertaining, but I'm afraid the end was a bit of a disappointment. Either the deeper meaning was lost on me, or I just was looking for something more than the obvious "live life to the fullest" message.

Just couldn't get into this one. It's a DNF for me, after 76 pages.

Read this year as part of my 2021 Mount TBR Challenge. On my TBR list since December of 2013.

Sarcasm and satire. That is what this book was about. I love sarcasm, and satire, when done well is very enjoyable. This satire may be a little heavy handed, but I did enjoy it. I could tell almost from the beginning that this story was not going to end well, but what a wild ride!

While Cameron is suffering from mad cow disease, he is taken on a wild road trip by Dulcie, a punk angel. The two meet crazy characters and strange situations. I would have enjoyed this more if I had been able to engage in their adventures and suspend disbelief. Instead, we were reminded periodically that Cameron is hallucinating while hospitalized.

That book was a wild ride! Cameron’s narrative voice was great - he reminded me of a modern day Holden Caufield, but better. I will say that this book was a bit dense and had a lot of different references that were sometimes hard to follow. Additionally, the entire structure/premise of the book was predictable. But this would be a great book for anyone looking for a modern hero’s journey with lots of wackiness.

This book is awesome!
I really loved it, the narrative, the events, the characters, I don't really know about a thing that isn't great about this book.
The theme is unique, and quite a ride right along Cameron and co. I loved it, and recommend it to anyone open to wild rides.

One of the best coming of age books I've ever encountered. Hilarious satire that gets philosophical delving into our humanity, mortality, and the power of friendships. It changed me as a 13 year old and held up a decade later.
