I’m a great fan of this series and have been for years now. A vision of Shadows was slightly disappointing and a slight let down from the previous series however seeing skyclan in their rightful place made up for that.

At first I found the new characters difficult to read from, probably since I didn’t know them too well and was reluctant for the Erin’s to develop more characters when there were so many characters I already knew who were developed. However seeing perspectives from 3 different clans was really interesting, a little disappointed it’s the same clans as always, I would love to see a WC or RC perspective. Maybe in the future😅

I think the characters, Rootpaw and Bristlepaw especially, very generic and similar to many characters from the past. For example I found Rootpaw so similar to alderheart- especially at the start with all his doubts. And Bristlepaw is a spitting image of Ivypool, I’m not sure if it’s nice to see the similarities or a bit samey but her character lacked originality. I loved seeing Shadowpaw again and hearing from his perspective, his worries and ambitions are what many people can relate to and I found his parts refreshing to read.

The plot was slow to start but I understand having to develop the characters and set the aims for the series. As it picked up speed my love for the series was regained. I was worried the plot wouldn’t be able to keep up with previous ones with terms of engagement, speed and originality which I feel after so many series it could lack. However it didn’t disappoint and I found the whole mystery surrounding Starclan and Bramblestar really engaging and my thoughts are spiralling surrounding possible plots and theories. I can’t wait to see how this plot turns out and the connection with the supernatural is really intriguing and The mystery and unknown surrounding everything is so different from previous series. I’m not certain it is going to be as good as previous series but I’m hopefully optimistic.

I would recommend this for long term fans although the plot doesn’t focus around characters we have seen in the past. Although I have downloaded path of a warrior and can’t wait to get reacquainted with characters from earlier series. This book would be great for new comers for the series as well if they don’t want to read the earlier series (although I definitely would!)

4/5 only because the characters I found were generic and I was wanting more originality within some of them. And he plot was slow to start, however know this series has started I can’t wait for it to continue and am anticipating the next novel in this series.
