This installment of Barefoot Gen was a great testament to hope and perseverance after war. The perspective on the American occupation is fair, and I enjoyed how the characters found creative ways to support themselves in the absence of caring adults.

Quem diria que eu chegaria ao ponto de rir com essa série, mas é isso que aconteceu. Várias partes mais light, acho que justamente pelo ar de reconstrução que permeia os personagens e o país.

A tragédia que eu tinha imaginado no fim do volume anterior não aconteceu – milagre! – e é bem mais otimista. Tem partes tristes ainda, tipo a menina que quer se suicidar porque tá com a cara toda deformada e a precariedade na qual todos ainda vivem.

As coisas continuam difíceis, claro, mas há uma luz no fim do túnel.
