An essential book for understanding the history of queer culture and struggles, for those who can stomach reading through the extreme violence and discrimination of queer people (especially gender non-conforming and trans) in the pre-mid Stonewall era. And an amazing coming of age/coming into self/self discovery and acceptance journey like no other.

this book means the world to me. leslie feinberg writes in a way that makes you feel the emotions the characters are going through, from pure happiness to grief. a book that had and still has a huge impact on the queer community and our movement. a book that shaped the way i see my own identity. a book that makes us hope and fight for a future we know it's not granted.
truly a book like no other and i recommend it to anyone who's interested in queer (mostly sapphic and lesbian) history.
