This was a really intriguing book. Okay, I'll admit it --- I was pretty bored as I skimmed the sex chapters in the middle. *But* the story on either end was fascinating, set in a fictional African country that spent the last ten years as an independent offshoot of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The heroine who takes in stray wildlife (rhinos, gorillas, American doctors) was well done and the landscape was very believable. I just wished there'd been a longer author's note to let me know whether Sullivan made it all up wholecloth or whether she's had firsthand experience with the region.
