Wow amazing read!

This was a captivating Beauty and the Beast tale. The end had me actually exclaim out loud and books that can do that are so fun. I love how thought out the storyline is. The idea of a chemically induced or unlocked physical transformation is intriguing as well. The scenes hinted at romance and a sexual relationship without having the sex described which actually worked for this book. I am excited to continue reading this series.

I am a substantial Beauty and the Beast enthusiast, and this story maintained a plot so closely and wonderfully parallel to the original one, but with some perfectly creative twists! One particular twist on this treasured classic was that everyone had a totem, an animal form that they could transform into. I really liked the idea of everyone having their own inner beast (animal) reflective of themselves, and some being perhaps more beastly than others. It played very well into the story.

Kaide as the Beast character, was beyond perfect! R. S. McCoy did such an amazing job with him! He was everything I wanted to see in the Beast of this story! I’m afraid that I have a bit of a crush on him too. He was the perfect Beast to Blossom’s Beauty character. Blossom, who was also considerably well written, was sassy, bold, compassionate, naive, adventurous and I enjoyed her character development throughout the book so much! She learns and grows so much into a beautiful character. Both characters had phenomenal chemistry, and I cannot get over how significantly identical some of the scenes felt to the original classic.
Something remarkably noteworthy, is the realm that R. S. McCoy created with the four element-based branches. Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. It had kind of an Avatar: The Last Airbender feel to me in its division of the elements and diversity (the awesome tv show, not the awful movie). The diversity of the four branches offered very different and unique cultures, animal totem groups included.

My imagination soared as I was so incredibly grateful that the author did not overdo any descriptions, but let me gather the terrain and atmosphere from the characters’ interaction with it. I loved experiencing the market and vendors from Blossom’s eager curiosity and interaction with them rather than have everything laid out for me in erroneous detail.

That ending though. A heart-wrenching cliffhanger! What am I going to do with myself while I wait for the next one to come out? I need to know what happens next right meow!

Final verdict: 5 stars! I recommend this book to all Beauty and the Beast fans. I have read a decent amount of Beauty and the Beast retellings, and this is definitely one that you need to get your paws on!

I absolutely loved this book! I could not get enough of it and seriously contemplated forgoing my responsibilities in order to keep reading it. I could not think of a better way to write this book. It was absolutely flawless and kept me reading from page one. I went through so many emotions with Blossom while reading this book (laughing, crying, smiling, swooning), and really felt like I was living all of this through her. I loved that this was a re-telling that stayed true to it's original-ness. It didn't feel like a copy, but more of a reminiscent, original piece of work. I cannot wait to get my hands on a finished copy, and more importantly to get my hands on book 2, Raene and the Three Bears! I highly, highly recommend you pick up this book! It is definitely going in my favorites!
