This was one of the books from my mother's bookshelf and I thought it looked interesting. Although heavily moralistic and written in the vernacular of the Adirondack region during the 19th century, I found it enjoyable. The author really captured the harshness of a North Country winter. I think the book I read belonged to my grandfather and is a 1911 edition by the Platt & Peck Company of New York. It looks like this may be the 2nd edition and that it was originally published in 1890 by the De Wolfe, Fiske, & Co. The book is beautifully illustrated by Frank T. Merrill.
