A longer review to come. I really enjoyed this except occasionally the tone of the narrators was either trying too hard to be cute/quirky or I felt patronized by the information being shared (which could have more to do with my age vs the intended audience for my book). And the anachronistic allusions took me out of the story (the Shakespeare although that one mostly worked story wise, and the princess bride which I liked less). Other than that, a really fun story that mixes history, adventure, romance, and magic.

5 stars is insufficient to rate this book. I need twice as many. I am a 41 year old man, so I'm not sure I was the intended audience for this book - but that should just go to show you how good this book is. I've now read this book and their My Plain Jane and I cannot wait to read their next work.

I listened to both books in audiobook format and I really really REALLY recommend the audio book for this one. Katherine Kellgren's brilliant portrayal made me love this book SO much more. She really captures the humor and tone of the book. It's one of the best recordings I've ever heard. Ever. EVER.

Ok, I'm done gushing. Go read this book, listen to the audio, whatever you have to do to get this novel into your life. You won't regret it.
