I started this book because the main characters name is the same as mine. It’s one of those raunchy romances you see old ladies reading in paperback form. I’m not a huge fan of smut, and some scenes I skipped, but overall I had a good time, and the plot was pretty solid. Though the author does partake in insta-love. The setting kind of reminded me of Macbeth. Overall fun read, will not be partaking in the authors other works.

It’s Olde Timey Scotland! BRIANNA is the chief of the MacLeod clan (heck yes lady laird #girlboss)! EWAN is the sexy younger brother of the chief of the rival Fraser clan! BRIANNA decides to end their clan feud by kidnapping EWAN and tying him to the bed and bonking (??? …GIRLBOSS!)

The first fifty pages were great, specifically her being exasperated with all her dipshit male advisors and refusing to slutshame a sex worker that everyone else is trying to get her to slutshame. The romance got disappointingly vanilla after the first two sex scenes, like girl you kidnapped a dude you liked so you could literally tie him to the bed, own it! Maybe this is a Harlequin genre thing? Also disappointing: there was somehow too much plot! No one cares about your conniving advisor, you’ve got a dude manacled to your bed and a witch making you sex potions! come ON

The non-heroine women characters (maybe-witch and friendly sex worker) were positive and the antagonists were all sexist men rather than jealous/shrewish/slutty women. Oddly everyone’s mother was dead again. Do Harlequin Women Have Mothers? We will find out next time!

SO disappointed the sex got earnest so early, honestly what a waste of a wonderfully unhinged premise
