A very sweet story that will resonate with so many families. It depicts a single dad who is juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet which is hard for the child narrator at times. But he manages to balance it all, like a unicycle, and teaches his children the value of hard work and perseverance. I love that it shows a parent earning his GED and having to sacrifice to make ends meet, as many children will see themselves, or come to understand others, through this book.

Based on the author's true story growing up, this is a kind and gentle book about struggle and strength with a satisfying end. It's a sweet tribute to the author's family. And who doesn't like a unique story that includes a unicycle!?

This is a story about the love of a single parent and his perseverance to raise his family. Through him, his daughter Sarah learns the meaning of resilience. "Unicycle Dad" is a heartwarming and deeply resonant tale that beautifully captures the quiet joys found amidst adversity. It is a testament to the strength of familial bonds. Sarah Hovorka's gentle narrative guides the reader through the ups and downs of poverty and the fight for a better life.

I loved this book! It is especially heartwarming when you know the story is written from the author's personal experience. The book gives children a peek into the struggle some families experience. I also enjoyed the play on words for the dad riding a unicycle and being a single dad. It is a heartfelt story that demonstrates family love, hard work, perseverance, and more. Besides being a good story, it can be used to open up various conversations with your children.
