I think this one is pretty specific to the fans of the series, newbies won't connect to it. I missed these characters and was excited to spend some time back in their world (er, knowes?) When does 10 come out?!

Exciting and terrifying -- as always, Toby ends up in terrible danger, with her life on the line, covered in blood. Is this woman ever not covered in blood? This volume in the series moves the overall story in some interesting new directions. Can't wait to see what happens next!

I have loved this series so much but there is always one book that won't hit the spot and won't work. A Red-Rose Chain is this book for me.
The blurb sounded good and well it was just so dull and I mean really dull. I expected more.
Gosh, this was just. I mean really boring. And that is saying something because this author can really write. Nothing happened.
This is what happens:
Toby is to be a diplomat to the Silences to stop a war.
Toby is not the best person to be diplomat.
We have another usurper to kick off the throne.
At least she doesn't bleed all over the place in this book.

Don't get me wrong, I love Toby & company. This series is one of my favorites to revisit. However, I'm more than tired of the following sequence: Toby passes out, wakes up hours/days later, is told what she missed by Tybalt, Quentin, May, etc. It seems to be happening in every single book at least once, and I'm a bit disappointed. It's a useful tool occasionally, but using it in nearly every book is lazy.

This one was brutal. Toby was a absolute bad ass so many times in this one. The ending was the best. I'm trying to keep this spoiler free, but if you know, you know the scene I'm thinking of. I love how much character development we got for Walther and Quentin. I still want more development of Toby and Tybalt's relationship tho. On to the next book!
