The author combines chapters from Eleanor's present, past, and explanatory tarot book to tell the story of a teen who lost her confidence in love and life and show how she gets it back. The switches between past and present were a little confusing on the audio, but otherwise I liked this book. The characters are fun and the story engaging throughout. Content warnings for toxic relationship, bi erasure, and chronically ill parent.

Okkkkk I really liked some things about this book - the major arcana interpretations at the beginning of each chapter, the Salem, Mass. setting, the queerness. But this is a contemporary story instead of fantasy, and it is capital D-A-R-K dark. I'm not sure how comfy I am with the way things are handled in here. 3 stars feels right to me.

This is a younger YA. I saw the cover on a display in my library and picked it up with no hesitation.  Witches and queerness ahh yes please. It didn't disappoint. Adorable, warm and fuzzy but with real life strife.

This book offers a strong perspective of how our negative thinking can warp our reality.

The MC sort of made this book a little hard to get through. The whole angsty, pessimistic teen thing is kinda overdone, but I get why it's like that. I just wish it wasn't soooo emphasized. I loved the major arcane being utilized for story telling and story progression and I liked the slow introduction of Eleanors background/trauma. Her self medicating struck me as odd and I just felt like the story overall wasn't explored as much as it could have been. Overall, it was an easy read with a positive ending (which honestly was refreshing for me after recent books I've finished).

I loved this book. I basically want to read it again from the start.
