siria's review
4.0
All in a Don's Day is a collection of blog posts written by Cambridge Classics professor, Mary Beard, between 2009 and 2011, so if you follow Professor Beard's blog, there's nothing "new" here. While it's possibly not a book to read from cover to cover, then, it's nice to dip in and out of—Beard's posts cover, in a pithy manner, everything from the red tape and frustrations of academia to the parallels between ancient Roman and modern British politics. There are some posts of hers with which I agree, some which make me think, and others with which I vehemently disagree (the access to/diversity of an Oxbridge education, for instance, or online pseudonyms), but all make for interesting reading.
