I would give this 4.5 stars right now. In a few weeks, I might bump it up to a 5* read. I bought this book secondhand. I did some research because I wanted to read a book set in Sri Lanka, by a Sri Lankan writer - a book which told me something about the civil war there. This book did exactly that from a fictional perspective. I don't know if this novel was ever released in the UK - my copy came from the US. It is about two women, their families and their stories. One is Sinhalese and the other is Tamil. It's about how they are brought together and torn apart within the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka. At the back of my copy it says that this novel has been likened to The God of Small Things, Anil's Ghost and The Kite Runner. I think it might also appeal to fans of Half of a Yellow Sun.
