An excellent follow up to blood debts. I loved the continuing interrogation of Clem and Cris deciding how they want their magic to help them while also dealing with how their choices were impacted by the decisions of people in the past. i really can't wait to read more by Benton-Walker both in this series (hopefully) as well as other stories he writes.

The magic system in this series is so unique and interesting. The story is also a realistic commentary on race relations and, while some of the white character’s actions made me cringe, I enjoyed the story and I’m interested to see what happens next.
