I can't make up my mind about this one. I love the illustrations, and there is an implicit message validating adoption. However, the story also walks a thin line between enforcing and breaking gender stereotypes.

Such a cute story with a tender message. This one’s a keeper. You could read and reread Gaston and it would be a favorite.

This was Washington state's children's book pick if the year last year, and as I'm volunteering in an elementary school library, I naturally had to read it. Wow! I was thoroughly impressed with this book. This is a great read for children.

I think this is one of my favorites this year! It's adorable from the story to the illustrations and it's got a lovely message that does not hit you on the head.

The perfect picture book to teach voice, with a wonderful message about family and fitting in. Love!

I have been looking for a copy of this book, because I have a love-at-first-sight thing going on with the artwork. It is beautiful. As it turns out, the story was so cute! A great story about accepting who you are and appreciating where you come from. This book would be great to read at the beginning of school to teach about acceptance or as a mentor text to teach about plot charting.

A book that looks like it will be about a cute dog who reads is actually a heartwarming story about adoption. The best picture book of 2014.

A simply lovely book about belonging. I recommend this one to adoptive and foster parents without hesitation.
