A wonderful book to get you through the basics of fiction writing. Every chapter is written by different people discussing different elements of writing. They use a lot of the same example novels (The Great Gatsby, Lolita, The Catcher in the Rye) and always comment on the short story "Cathedral", which is provided in the appendix.

Este va a ser mi libro de cabecera. Me ha gustado bastante, lo he subrayado por todas partes y tengo todos los ejercicios marcados para ir haciéndolos poco a poco.
Os lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Este, junto al de Sanderson, son mis mejores lecturas sobre escritura de este año.

Muy útil, aunque no todas las partes, por eso. Los capítulos dedicados a las descripciones y a las correcciones son más flojos que el resto del libro. En cambio, destaco especialmente el final, dedicado a las editoriales y los agentes. Esta es la información que necesitamos de verdad los escritores. Un libro para tener en la mesilla de noche y consultarlo por costumbre.

Some great parts, some mediocre. The chapters on POV, publishing, and character are great and unique to what I’ve seen elsewhere. Other chapters, however, are ho-hum and about what you’d find on the blog of a helpful editor. Still, the POV and publishing chapters (and voice to a lesser extent) were so good that I had to give it four stars. The POV chapter writer made two references to autism that seemed totally unnecessary and offensive but I didn’t notice any other major issues.
