She said, “I could never be involved with a white woman long-term. [...] I need a lover who understands me. I can’t imagine fighting the white world and then coming home and having to get into bed with it.”

Anya really gaggs the palmiteiro main character Virginia in that whole dialoge and i missed this in the first novel of the series. The main character is very socially critical, except when it comes to desire-ability politics and denies up and down that the fact that she only dates ww is not rooted in self-hate which stems from lack of self-esteem.

So i am glad she was gagged by a fellow Black lesbian in the second novel. hopefully Anya will return in book 3 and school her some more or ole Virginia will finally see the light 😭

202 pages of relationship processing, with barely a five minute breather for the murder. Oh sweet heavens no.
