Kids used to play dot-to-dot on my arms, seeing what pictures would emerge. I wish I had had this book when I was in third grade.

This was a very cute book that helped children learn that just because you are a girl, you must play with a girl and do girly things and vise versa as a boy.

I read this sweet story because it is illustrated by Leyeun Pham.
Freckleface Strawberry is an ordinary girl except that she is covered with freckles. She doesn't like being teased about them so she tries to get rid of them. She tried scrubbing them off. That didn't work. She tried putting lemon juice all over them. It didn't do the trick either. She tried colouring herself with a marker, but Mother's don't like it when you draw on yourself. Then Freckleface Strawberry tried hiding her freckles. She wore long pants and a long shirt. She wore a balaclava on her head. It worked. At school no one recognized her, but she was lonely. It's only when a baby laughs at her freckles and the baby's mother tells her that she once had freckles, that our girl finds hope. When her disguise is removed all her friends come to welcome her.

Written by the Academy Award winning actress, this story talks about a little girl who is covered in freckled and is unhappy with them. She cannot rid herself of these skin marking and so she covers them up, only to realise that it is these freckles that make her unique. She soon relishes the attention she gets from these freckles and turns embarrassment into pride. Neo and I can both relate, being freckled gingers. However, Neo has asked me to count my freckles when I get bored. Might help him excel at calculus.

Kind of too negative for my taste, though I'd like to get opinions from my friends who have bright red hair and freckles and survived grade school.
