A masterpiece!

Really impressive book. Federici provides an incredibly detailed analysis of the transition to capitalism while going further than Marx (not that I've read him lol) and arguing that the accumulation of labour necessary for capitalism was contingent on the subjugation and denigration of women:

"Capitalism, as a social-economic system system, is necessarily committed to racism and sexism. For capitalism must justify and mystify the contradictions built into its social relations—the promise of freedom vs. the reality of widespread coercion, and the promise of prosperity vs. the reality of widespread penury—by denigrating the "nature" of those it exploits: women, colonial subjects, the descendants of African slaves, the immigrants displaced by globalization."

Learned so much reading this I need to read it again. Each page gives you enough to think about for a whole day and her writing was really compelling. Recommend absolutely!

I read this book after I read the Beauty Myth. I was trying to find a good one about capitalism and patriarchy and this one simply delivered everything I was looking for. What an incredible work the author did here. I am mesmerized by how informative and well organized it was structured.
