«Should I continue reading or keep being ignorant for my own sanity?» - that’s the question I always ask myself while reading books with themes of feminism. The roots of women oppression infiltrates deep into society including political structure and everyday life.

The more I educate myself on history the more I see the patterns, the glimpses, the stereotypes, the consequences of decades of oppression. When I talk with men and women (who don’t know or care about feminism) I can no longer experience interactions the same. Especially when these men and women are my parents or my dearest friends.

A bittersweet feeling.

And I really liked this book.

(kinda spoilery overview) i think i can confidently say this is the best non-fiction book ive read so far with regards to how much i learnt from reading: such a comprehensive look into how european capitalism developed from feudalism and how much misogyny and racism are intertwined with this development in order to divide the working class and prevent uprisings. whether divided through the implementation of social norms such as state prostitution, reproductive control, the banning of cultural practices, or physically through the privatisation of communal land and the banning of social spaces, how forcibly and unnaturally capitalism was thrust upon the medieval peasantry and indigenous people across the world to prevent community, solidarity, and uprisings, and to instil obedience into workers and especially women, isolated and individualised
