All in all, this was a wonderful new addition to the series and I cannot wait to see what is next for Mary-Kate and who she will meet next!

A very enjoyable younger to middle grade read. The characters are well rounded and the mystery story well told. The underlying messages about diversity and environmental issues are excellent without detracting from a good story.

I adore this series, and this second instalment was even better than the first.
Sweet, observant, anxious Mary-Kate and her archeologist mother are again called on to investigate some curious occurrences, this time in the Greek Islands.
Boats and piers have been destroyed, there’s curious myth about a two-headed hydra, a cunning business woman is getting rich selling sardines, and the colour red seems to be popping up everywhere. While her mother, the Prof, is uncovering a beautiful mosaic to determine its historical significance, Mary-Kate gets to work exploring the islands and talking to the locals to find out what’s really going on.
Mystery, adventure, mythology mix in a beautiful story about bravery, kindness, friendship, and environmentalism.
Mary-Kate is a wonderful protagonist who demonstrates bravery, thoughtfulness and compassion, while also providing great representation for anxiety. Karen Foxlee’s writing is clear and evocative. The pacing was exciting but not stressful… this is all round becoming one of my top recommendations for kids ages 6-10. Love it.
