Quite dull, not at all enlightening, and there are no chapters.

I really got into this book as time went on. I really started to find myself looking forward to finding out what happens to Richard and the assorted cast of characters. The story was way over the top at times and I found myself really identifying with everyone.

Then the ending hit and suddenly it's like someone slammed on the brakes after speeding through the story with the various dramas connecting them. I really wanted more from the ending and as much as I appreciate the author wants to let the reader finish the book, it just felt so incomplete. I would have rated it much higher, but the ending just really let me down.

I read this while coming out of a long period of isolation, so there were definitely parts that grabbed me by the fuckin throat. I liked that the tone was so silly and absurd despite the story being so sad, it felt true to life and made the more poignant moments really shine.

"When a person comes in from the cold, it's not like they immediately feel warm. If they've been out for a while, they come in and everything hurts, and the warmer they get the more pain they're in."

To say that not a lot of anything happens in this book, it is still quite an interesting read. I mean a lot does happen, actually an exceedingly large amount of things happen in such a short amount of time, but I guess I mean not a lot of substance. I suppose this book is supposed to be about what can happen when you open yourself up to new experiences and yadayada but really it is just a slightly comical, feel-good holiday read.

A hilariously dark post modern account of the world we live in. It feels a little bit like what would happen it James Joyce had an encounter in a Doughnutshop in LA.
