If you're looking for horror comics to try out, this is a good place to start. I've heard quite a bit about Victor LaValle and I was excited to see that he actually was behind the creation of this comic. It's definitely an interesting continuation of Frankenstein
Destroyer is more than a Frankenstein retelling. It stands as a continuation of the story in which the creature lives and Frankenstein has a descendent in the form of a Black woman. This single issues looks at a lot of interesting concepts and ideas including the death of a child, the Black experience as defined by Black women, fear, love, and vengeance. I went into it completely blind not really expecting much and was pleasantly surprised by the fluid writing, plot development, and character development. Considering that this is a single issue, there isn't much that I can really say about it; however, I did enjoy it. The artwork was incredible and I can't wait to actually explore the trade paperback of this series.
