I loved this like I loved the other 2 I have read. This book gives you all the happy feels. Lola bringing them together in the end was just magically and it was based in what seems like the most wonderful place that I wish I could go visit

Emma goes to a pawn shop in NYC and notices a watch that she gave to a college boyfriend 11 years ago. Emma buys the watch and ends up in an Inn in Vermont where this College boyfriend, his fiance and his daughter is. Things come together that may just change Emma's destiny.
I am a huge fan of Anita Hughes. She writes such beautiful stories about love with amazing characters and HEA's. This one was one of my faves by her. I feel like the female character Emma popped off the page. I absolutely adored this book. Go read it now!!

Christmas in Vermont by Anita Hughes
Starts with Emma and she's pawning her ex's jewelry he had given her a week ago as he jetted off to Hawaii for Christmas holidays, without her.
Her bestie gives her a week long stay in VT and she has nothing to do in town so she heads up there from NY. Lovely descriptions of the area and activities to do.
She's agreed to take over 'kids club' at the inn for room and board. She runs into her first love-Fletcher who is there with his daughter and new fiancee.
Chapters go back in time to when they first met and the things and places they'd go. Then you are back to the present and then the past...
Cool winter activities to do and with Fletcher's help they can run a fund raiser for the inn owner who is struggling to keep it open. Like all the discussions about overseas locations, can't wait to visit myself.
Rather predictable how this is gonna work out by the end.
Synchronicity and fate make this story work.
Received this review copy from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Emma has recently broken up with another wrong guy and while purging some of the boyfriend things, she stumbles upon something from her past and through the help of a friend she may stumble back upon the guy that got away.

With me and Anita Hughes books, I either really love them or not so much and I usually know pretty quickly into reading, so I was so excited when from page one I was swept into this story.

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway. I enjoyed this book, but definitely think I would have enjoyed it better had I read it during the wintertime. There were some elements of the story that I really liked and some parts that were just okay.

I really wish I could say something nice about this book but the only thing nice about it is that the story takes place in Vermont, which seems wonderful.

The characters are shallow and unlikeable. Fletcher sucks as a father...I'm wondering what kind of father leaves his nine year old alone at an inn to have some alone time with fiancee and stays away for five hours. Oops, sorry we just kind of stopped to have a five course lunch. Idiot.

Emma was also clearly stupid who fell for Fletcher. Don't get me started with her inability to have a relationship longer than 365 days. Hello therapist???

I wish the author had written about a strong woman and especially a father who puts his child first. She describes Vermont very well!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for kindly providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Before I can describe the book, you need to have this definition:
----------------------------
synchronicity
n. the simultaneous occurrence of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection.
----------------------------
Emma, a copyrighter in New York, is in the habit of ending relationships before they hit the one year mark. This story begins with a very recently single Emma, who is questioning her relationship habits, and believing that she will never find 'The One'. When she goes to pawn off the jewelry said ex just gave her, she discovers a watch that she had given to Fletcher, “the one that got away” in college, and begins to wonder what would have been.

Bronwyn, Emma’s best friend and a big believer in 'synchronicity', sends Emma on a trip to a quaint inn in Snowberry, VT where she had discovered Fletcher is staying for the holidays. What comes next is interesting...

----------------------------

My very favorite part about the book was that I could literally feel the Holiday spirit. The author captured the essence of Christmas so well through descriptions of the town, and activities. The town came alive for me as Emma explored shops and participated in a variety of things while on vacation.

The characters were, in truth, unbelievable but did provide some entertaining moments. The biggest reason this didn't get more stars from me was that I didn’t fall in love with our MC's Emma or Fletcher. I really love a book where I can connect with the characters, or feel emotion, and I just didn't get that. They felt pretty one dimensional. I also am not a huge "instant love" person, and this felt much too convenient. (Especially if it really only takes place in about a week)

The writing style is light and fun though and is extremely easy to read. It was slightly confusing that the book was broken up by "X days until Christmas' and 'X days until New Years' when the story moved in chronological order. I felt this was unnecessary and just confused me. (I do have an uncorrected galley copy, so this may be different in the final book)

I did not like this plot point of synchronicity. I found it to be much too overstated and it began to become tedious to continue reading about it over and over.

Overall, I found Christmas in Vermont to be a fun and lighthearted Christmas read. I did feel like the storyline was too easy, and came together too perfectly. I also wasn't too attached to the MC's. That said, I enjoyed the read and loved the scenery and descriptions of the Holiday season.

Special thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Anita Hughes for the early review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.

A few summers ago I visited Vermont & loved it. I said then that I’d love to be in Vermont at Christmas, this book solidifies that. Vermont is the star of this book. Lola is precocious & lovable. Of course you know that Fletcher & Emma will end up together, of course the lies will cause trouble. I’ve read two other Xmas books by this author, this is the stronger of the three.

This was a nice story to read during the holiday. Rekindling old relationships in a winter wonderland is just what I needed this Christmas. The characters are ultimately good people that you genuinely like and want to have good things happen to. While it is a predictable story, no shocking twists, it makes you happy while reading it. Good holiday read!
