I loved this book, especially on audio as Alicia reads her beautiful words in her beautiful voice (and breaks out in song from time to time)!

Not one of my favorite memoirs. I felt that this is a beautiful and inspiring work but also a little boring. The only time I really felt a lot of emotion was when Alicia talked about her grandmother passing. I felt very connected to that because I was also really close to my grandmother and when she passed, it was hard for me. I do not like giving memoirs anything less than 5 stars but I couldn't give this one 5 stars. It took me a while to read it because I was not super thrilled when I was listening.

If only More Myself actually delivered...more. It’s always a bummer when a memoir doesn’t come off intimate revealing the humanistic highs and lows of a person’s journey, rather than coming off cookie cutter as if that person’s life has panned out so perfectly.

Alicia has always been private and there’s no change of that in this memoir, which doesn’t even contain a single photo. There were a few moments that piqued my interest, but she never went in depth like I’d wish.

Alicia hopscotched over discussing any controversy she’s experienced publicly. I honestly didn’t expect her to, however, seeing that it (her relationship with then-married Swizz Beatz) took a hit to her brand, it’s a part of her story. (She powered straight to the blended family aspect.) Controlling one’s narrative is understandable, but not to the point that it becomes stifled and surface level. I’m surprised the book didn’t end with “And she lived happily ever after.”

2.5 rating

SN: I wonder if Alicia ever thought about penning books on productivity and travel/history. She’s a highly organized and inquisitive person. She displays this throughout this book. That would most likely work better than this one.

Audiobook was so well done. Alicia Keys narrating, people in her circle providing narrative/perspective, Keys playing piano and singing lines at different times in the book - those elements were so cool and Keys is an engaging narrator. Toward the latter part of the book it felt like a list of accomplishments and I had a harder time engaging but Keys is a creative force and I enjoyed her story.

I really enjoyed this book. I don’t listen to a lot of her music, but I might start now that I have a small understanding of what she was experiencing whiling writing her albums.

Listening to this audiobook was a real treasure for many reasons. Alicia Keys’ voice was such a pleasure to listen to as she told her story. And there were introductions to each section by important people in her life in their own voices and that was really special.
The book is the story of her life, and naturally scattered throughout are various lessons she learned. I have such great respect for Alicia, what she stands for, and her genuine nature. But I have to say this book felt a little on the light side with regards to insights. I guess I thought it would go deeper.
However, as I said, it was a great book to listen to you and interesting to see the perspective of someone coming up in the music industry. Enjoyable.

Beautiful insight into the life of Alicia Keys. She is a wonderful humanitarian and activist and has worked with many great people on other projects to help uplift the community.
