I feel like the first issues are almost always 3 stars for me, so I'd say that this was a pretty good starting point for this series.

Avant-Guardes is a new series, and honestly, I may have overlooked it, had it not had a strong resemblance to Giant Days. That’s not to say that the series will focus on the same things…just something about it made me think of the series. I think it’s the tone. Either way, I’ve been looking for more casual series to follow, so I was very happy by this appearance.
This was a great start to the new series. It was light and fun, while still taking the time to introduce all the important characters and facts. So far it looks like the focus is mainly on one character, but I can see that changing on an issue by issue basis. It feels like that sort of series if that makes sense.
I loved the art style used for this series. I hope they keep it! It’s bright and doesn’t waste too much time or effort on shading, leaving the pages feeling open instead of cluttered. It works, especially for the story being told.
