The strength of this book lies in the bonds the characters form, which go beyond the beliefs and values of their respective societies. But I was also charmed by the very detailed setting (and we know so little about Roman Britain, so it's twice as hard!) and the beautiful natural descriptions.

When I borrowed this audiobook from the library, I didn’t realize it was abridged. So that was slightly disappointing but it was still n enjoyable listen, with a good reader.

Pretty good historical fiction of a missing Roman Legion and a sons journey to find answers. If I had the time I'd likely finish the series. This was part of my required reading for child lit.

A fun, pleasant read. I felt the dialogue was a bit strained at times due to extreme effort to make it feel authentic, which I think backfired. However, other than that I thought the writing was good. The story was definitely interesting; intriguing enough to keep me hooked. :-)
Overall, a very unique and enjoyable read.

Great historical fiction: very interesting story, great setting, good characters. I liked it a lot. Can't say I was exactly enthralled, it felt kind of short and parts were a little slow, but overall very enjoyable and educational, and I very much liked reading it. No real complaints at all.

Wow I loved this book. Just an all around good romp. Fun, emotional, complex, surprisingly nuanced in it's attempts to tackle complex issues like imperialism, slavery, disability, etc. The plot seemed to move forward just effortlessly, everything fitting together into the most satisfying resolution. This lacked any sense of cynicism, which was just.....divine. I truly am struggling to convey JUST what a joy reading this book was.

I've been on a Greek and Roman-inspired literature kick since the pandemic started, and this just like really really hit the perfect spot for me. So much fun, and Marcus is such a good, good boy (lol).

Amazing book! I loved Esca best but Marcus was amazing and realistic, also. Their relationship is definitely a fictional favorite for me. Also: CUB. What a great addition! I did see
Spoiler Cottia and Marcus
coming and while it felt a smidge rushed to the end, it was nice.
