A decent start, although I think the anime did a better job at introducing Gauche and Niche. The artwork is rather nice, especially the cover.

To add all the manga's!

I mostly read mangas when I think that the anime was great but I want answers or expect the story line to go differently. I watched Tegami Bachi during the airing season, that's a long time ago and it has always been on my to-read-list. So here I am trying to read this at some point and to see if I finally get the answers that I wanted years ago.

To be continued :)

I think this might be a series I could really get into if I liked the story more. As it stands, I don't think I'll go out of my way to get the second book of the series. There's nothing wrong with this book, I just don't find it to my taste.

What initially drew me into the story was the originality of the plot. It's the first story I ever came across where the main characters are letter delivery people, but with a unique, sci-fi twist.

Amberground is a land of perpetual darkness. Giant bug monsters inhabit the shadows between small towns. Only the capital, Akatsuki, receives any light. A masseuse star provides warmth above the capital. Otherwise, the people of this world live in the dark…

Well, save for a few bright spots.

Letter Bees are responsible for transporting messages across the vast reaches of this world. More importantly, they make sure hearts remain connected even in the dark. They are some of the only folk able to stand against the monsters in the shadows, able to shoot “pieces of their own hearts” back at these monsters.

When Gauche Suede is tasked with one last delivery before a big promotion, he has no idea how the outcome will change the course of many lives. See, his last delivery requires him to transport a young boy, Lag Seeing, to an aunt. But, Lag is traumatized and afraid. His mother was taken from him, her last wish for him to be safe. Lag feels guilty he couldn’t help her — that he could only watch her abduction.

As Gauche transports Lag across the darkness, the two learn a lot about each other and the things they’ve lost. They touch each other’s hearts. Lag is inspired to become a Letter Bee and help others in the way he couldn’t help his mom.

What a fantastically interesting and beautiful story so far! Expansive world-building and character development! Definitely recommend!
