I am a sucker for parataxis and Vermette had me on the first page. Parataxis of phrase, parataxis of image, and she uses the technique consistently throughout this beautiful little book about living in Winnipeg's North End. Honest, sometimes sad stories of young women's lives are told with wisdom and gentleness. The painful story of a girl whose brother goes missing.

A beautiful and heart wrenching book of poetry. Every poem was exquisite. A must read.

A heavy book, very centred around the authors missing brother. I felt like I was there with them, wondering where he was, and felt the pain when they discovered what happened. Not sure if I will buy this one but it’s a beautiful book.

this is vermette’s first book, and i think it shows. this is a good and thought provoking collection, but didn’t speak to me nearly as much as her second poetry collection ‘River Woman’ which I highly recommend.

I'd've enjoyed this a whole lot more if it weren't for English class
