Very generous three stars to this one, which you should skip.

I really enjoyed the first book on the series, and I was awaiting the second installment with excitement. I could not be more disappointed.

The book is way too long, with way too many characters that don’t matter, and with way too many archeological explanations and artifacts mentioned that do nothing for the story.

In the same way that the first book had the side story of a potential romance between Evan and Addie, this book spends way too much time going back to that story line because the author, basically, screwed up by giving both characters other partners. All could have, perfectly, be left out of the book knocking down a few unnecessary and boring pages.

At the end, we are left with a very slow book that can be skipped. Hopefully, the third book becomes better.

Another romp through Chicago with Dr Wilding. Ms Nickless is a new to me author and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Evan. I’ll be adding her other novels to my TBR list. Let’s dive into book three!
Part of the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

I am not a huge crime fiction reader, but I will always make time for this series. Dr. Evan Wilding is such a great character! I would love to see this series jump to streaming starting Peter Dinklage. I would watch it in a heartbeat.

Like the first one, this was a complex mystery, this time focused on Biblical antiquities. Good background on the topic.

My complaint is that that female characters are a little flat. I'm eager to see Evan and Addie get together (eventually...) but I really want Addie to get better fleshed out.

Also: would love to see more of Ronen Avraham. Or a spinoff with him!

3 1/2 stars. These Evan Wilding books are good, but they just don't have the compelling factor the Sydney Parnell books have.

Nickless once again does not disappoint with this second book in the Evan Wilding series.

While I didn't enjoy it quite as much as book one, and the series as a whole isn't as captivating as the Sydney Parnell books, I still devoured the book in a couple sittings.

The mystery in this one all revolves around ancient artifacts, antiquities, Biblical scholarship, and all the bad actors that can get involved with looting, forging, and auctioning items off for big money.

Like book one in this series, there is a lot of "information dumping" and if you don't enjoy that sort of thing, I would say to stay clear. I've never had a problem with it, especially when it's well done and I really liked getting more insight into all these things.

I'm not sure if the series is going to continue past book three, but I do look forward to reading it.
