This book encompasses 130 plates from John James Audubon's "The Birds of America" octavo version. There is a brief introduction discussing his life and work, focusing on the creation of "The Birds of America" and how the octavo version came to be made. Then we have the plates- swoon! What can I say about the artwork, simply gorgeous. A perfect gift for any art and/or bird lover!

A gorgeous collection of John James Audubon’s prints from the mid-19th century – if you like birds, art, or art and birds, or if you’re just fond of nature in general, then you will enjoy this book. As a birdwatching newbie, I loved seeing Audubon’s illustrations of some of the birds I see every day here in the Pacific Northwest. And some that just look bizarre when drawn 19th century-style – like the flamingo, which looks like its super high. In all, a lovely collection of bird pictures – not much information otherwise, but if you just want pictures (which I often do because I’m lazy) this is the book for you.
