One of the best books I’ve ever read- excellent plot twists, charming setting, strong characters, incredible main characters with amazing witty banter, LGBT+ representation (supporting characters), iconic Bestiehood, insightful, inspiring, heartbreaking, and hopeful all at once!

(Don’t worry, those all make sense.)

An Ode to Death, quite simply. Sure, this is labeled a romance, but this was far more a free therapy session on the beauty of life and hope beyond it. Made my heart sing,  made me feel so full, and made me feel that much more healed. Ashley Poston did it again. I can easily see myself rereading this in the future to cope with a loss! (Forewarning: one scene is unnecessarily sexual but easily skipped.)
“For what is grief, but love persevering?”

This book hit me in the feels. There was so much discussion about grief and living your life, and it made the romance into a slightly smaller plot in comparison. I love these characters and while I wish there was more to the romance, it was written very “show don’t tell” which still connected with me. I am all on board for Florence and Benji! I anticipated the plot twist early on and kept reading hoping and praying that I was right lol. So much meaning in how these characters navigated grief and learned to love.

Picked this baby up at damn near 9 to finish the second half of the book and finished it at exactly 12:00am on the dot. Another Ashley Poston banger. Once again— much like I felt post-7 Year Slip, I feel changed having finished this book.

Florence and Benji’s love story was so unique and one of a kind. Tender, and layered and the way they truly saw one another, unlike anything else.

“What is grief if not love persevering?” This book was a very beautiful and interesting look at grief and love and the way it persists and manifests in places we least expect it. Flo is dealing with a lot in her life when she loses her dad and is forced to confront the hurt and pain of everything during a time where she’d rather compartmentalize and focus on one thing at a time. Then Ben shows up and it’s like another thing she has to deal with. But in the week they spend together Ben allows her a safe place to land, where she can be herself and show up unabashedly and without shame. And I think their situation allowed Ben to show up fully as himself as well and to put his anxiety down for a little while.

Also Ben was just swoon worthy. Like up there with one of my favorite MMC’s of all time. I am a fan.

AND I’m so glad she got to deck Lee’s b*tch ass.

I cried so many times while reading but it was truly phenomenal. I didn’t want to leave/say goodbye to these two AT. ALL. I want endless bonus epilogues about their adventures and little miss from the epilogue too. These characters have really left their mark on me and I’m so glad I picked this book up.

Predictable, cliche, cheesy, but also sweet and hopeful.  I’m not always a fan of contemporary romance because I feel like it can sometimes get cringey, and I feel like this book definitely leaned in that direction.  That said, I feel like it also had some impactful imagery around death and loss, and I appreciated that element.
