This was so much fun! I love stories with talking animals and humans and this one was everything I expected. It was perfect for me. It had action, betrayal, heartbreak, triumph and great characters. It was a well written, fast paced, read. I loved how everything came together. I’m excited to find out what happens next.

I really expected to like this more — I quite enjoy tales of audacious talking rodents. But it fell flat. I’m not the target audience, however, and my kids gave it a 5-star rave, so I generously recorded that rating.

I was very excited to read this book, as I went to university with the author many years ago! This book ticked so many boxes for me: fantasy, folklore, adventure, and the hero’s journey. I absolutely loved Julie Leung’s imagining of Camelot from the perspective of its woodland and castle-dwelling creatures. I know that when my nieces and nephews are old enough to read chapter books, they will love this book as much as I did. It was truly such a pleasure to be “whiskered” away (pun intended) with all the furry characters.

I received this book through Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

For the most part, I liked this story. It was an interesting retelling of the Camelot universe and I enjoyed the plot.

I really liked that the animals/roles were not gender specific and that there were good examples of strong females within the book.

However, I felt the beginning was very slow. I think some of the training stuff could have been cut to get into the action of the novel more quickly. Once the action started, it was very interesting.

There were a few confusing bits that interrupted the flow of the reading for me as well. Most were size related such as how a mouse headbutting a weasle would have any impact at all or how mice could serve food out of gourds.

But overall this was a good book that I enjoyed. Adventurous animals, family honor, and a little magic thrown in.

I am such a sucker for stories featuring rodentia!

These are cute, quick reads. Great for a class bookshelf, true middle grade (4th-6th grades) fare. Presumes content background knowledge of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (specifically, Guinevere, Lancelot and Galahad), although the plots are original takes on the legends -- from a heroic mouse's point of view.

We just have too many books right now, and unfortunately this one is the least exciting. We might try it again in a few years.
