Though there are a lot of similarities with the film of the same name, I enjoyed being able to pause to absorb the content in written form.
Not being a big reader of non-fiction, I appreciated that this book was very accessible (chapters weren't too long, conversational in tone, and there were pictures!).
The book has an ambitious scope - describing some big ideas and events in history where religion has had an impact for better or worse. I was appalled by what people have done in the name of Christianity, but I was also encouraged by the overall trajectory of good that Christians have had on the world.
A couple of criticisms: some of the language was a bit academic in parts (but I guess that's inevitable given the research, needing to be true to the sources etc). I think I would have also liked to see a bit more balance in some of the faithful Christians presented. To her credit the author touches on some of their flaws though.
Definitely a good book to read if you want a readable, balanced intro on how Christianity has had an impact on history.
