This was a mess of a book for me, full of cliches, predictable "twists," and unlikable characters.

The writing was not very good, either. The similes were numerous, awkward, and unnecessary, and I knew immediately that the author was a man (every woman the narrator sees had her breasts mentioned at least once). The editor(s) needed to go through the manuscript a few more times, as I found quite a lot of the prose added nothing to neither the story nor Anna's character.

This is a not spectacular book that does what it says on the tin. I think this genre is rather overpopulated - and you could probably find one where it’s done better than this.

The first half I found rather boring. The second half I raced through to find out what happened.

I felt disappointed by the plot - I don’t think it was cleverly enough done - it wasn’t really a puzzle the readers could work out. It was also grim in a not fun way - there were hints of sexual violence that just took this away from campy thriller to yikes plz stop and the protagonists backstory is just so over the top sad it is unnecessary.

The side characters aren’t particularly developed - they felt one dimensional.

The writing was also disappointing (a lot of not good similes.) I also caught on to the author being a man on the second page bc of a very weird passage describing a woman in a way only a male author describes a woman - yes of course her “breasts” and bra were mentioned.

It does what you want a thriller to do and keeps you hooked but I can’t say I’m overly satisfied or that it’s overly memorable.
