6/10 - theme of how Ashleigh reads and feels about books: this book was 100 chapters & was uninteresting for 88 chapters, BUT WOW, it was a very good ending, you just gotta get there, bc WOW loved it, lmk if your halfway through it & want me to spoil it, honestly a smidge worth your time

Ok, at last, my thoughts on this. It took me about a year after I bought this one to finally read it. I did find it to be an interesting read with a lot of twists and turns...however it is yet another book, with yet another unreliable female narrator who is a bit too much into drinking. We get it. Lady drinks, lady sees something, lady tells people what she saw...no one believes her. It was a fun read but I couldn't totally get into it...mostly because I could see the twists before they happened and it was all a bit too much for me.

3.5 stars bc it sucked but I still enjoyed it. It could have been SO much better if it had been half as long without all that stupid descriptive language. I don't need 3 sentences describing the way a light bulb flickers. I get it. I've seen light bulbs flicker before. And at one point it turned out that the narrator was lying to us in a way that's not even an unreliable narrator, but an unreliable author doing The Most for her plot twist.
Spoiler It was obvious that she was hallucinating her husband and daughter, but it would have been so much better if she didn't know she was hallucinating them. Instead she was lying to us for the sole freaking purpose of a dumb plot twist.
But there were some creepy scenes, so whatever.

Edit: This book has stayed with me in a very positive light. Sometimes you have to wait a while to tell how you feel about a book, and I like this one. I mean, That Scene, am I right??

I only put this book down when I was forced to live my life, otherwise I would’ve read it in one day. I loved the execution of it and just needed to know more!

So the ending and many of the other events in the book were pretty predictable. The author certainly borrowed a lot from other books and films of this genre. Maybe it would be more accurate to give this 3 stars, BUT I had a lot of fun reading it so I'll keep my higher rating.

Also I would like an update on what happened to the cat.

Looking back at this a few months later and I'm lowering my rating from 2 stars to 1, because the book gave me the worst feeling that I could have while reading:
description
Yawn. I kept waiting for the pace to pick up but once it did Finn threw some twists in that were only meant for shock value. In a story like this where I could not care less about the plot, it was a try-hard attempt at redeeming the book. This has received comparisons to [b:The Girl on the Train|22557272|The Girl on the Train|Paula Hawkins|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574805682l/22557272._SX50_.jpg|41107568] and even though I read that years ago, I don't think The woman in the window can live up to that. If you like reading about a woman trapped in her house doing the same things over and over, pick this up. I would have put it down if I hadn't read it as an audiobook.
