This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that merges the classic fairy tale with mythology. The story is of Bjerner, a blind Varangian guard for the Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros. After an attempt on his life, he stumbles into a cave that contains Ophidia, a gorgon and daughter of Medusa.
This is a story of love and loss, sacrifice and doing what is needed for those you love. This is a great retelling and i loved the combination of the fairy tale and mythology. I absolutely did not see the end coming at all. You will smile and cry as you read this book and it has left me hoping for the next book to see what happens next. This is a great quick read, but be warned, there is a lot of heartbreak that will leave you with all the feels.
