The Boy Who Went to Mars is a about boy named Stanley who heads off to Mars when his mother has to leave on a overnight trip for work. Stanley stays on Mars and a Martian comes back in his place. The Martian is not as well behaved as Stanley and doesn't wash his hands before dinner or brush his teeth before bedtime. He gets in trouble at school and fights with Stanley's best friend too! When Stanley's mom comes home the Martian decides its time to head back to Mars and Stanley finally comes home. This is a sweet story about how we deal with change.

Pretty cute, I loved the premise. The mom has a work trip and so Stanley goes to Mars. Overall, it was a cute book, just not great for storytime. It was a little long. Maybe for older kids?

Stanley copes with his mom’s leaving for an overnight work trip by flying to Mars and letting a Martian take his place for one day.
Great book highlighting coping mechanism of a boy who worries about missing his mom. I couldn’t think of a more adorable book to end my year with.

I felt so bad for his confused friend! I wish their reconnection had been shown as well.
