I learned a lot that I didn't know. I will definitely use this book in my teaching.

A clear and quick adaptation of the Zinn classic. I will definitely use sections for homework readings. Sometimes zinn strikes me as cynical....but i think his blunt perspective on history is just sometimes hard to take. His death was a true loss to the community of historians and to the world. Maybe that sounds overblown but I don't think it is.

A great history book written for young people, but can be read by anyone. A great way to learn a lot of the history that is not covered or otherwise distorted in standard history books. Read it since our kid was actually reading this as part of their social studies class in middle school.

Perhaps it’s because Zinn has pretty wide exposure at this point, but I didn’t find this to be the radical text I was expecting. I should probably read the “adult” version as this “student” edition left me wanting when it came to details. The amount of content being covered (and the desire to keep this from being 3 million pages long) kept this explanation of events very surface level. Kids can handle more primary source examples than this provided as well, though a good teacher would know to supplement with those. It was fine, but not inspiring on its own.

It has been a while since I read Zinn's A People's History but this really does seem like a shortened and slightly simplified version. This reminds me how thing change but remain the same, bouncing slightly back and forth over the years. It is saddening that I feel we are going less in the direction of a more fair economy and treatment of people than when I read the original.

Glad I finally read this one.
I would've loved to hear Howard Zinn's take on President Obama's two terms in office, as well as his thoughts on the current occupant of the White House and the state of our country right now in 2019.
