Another great one. Was relieved Lena and Angie were absent from this one. Very much appreciate the attention she brings to there ever present jeopardies of being a woman and balancing that with the dedication of a man like Will, so that I can remember there are good men in the world too. And Amanda I’d really really really growing on me, quickly becoming my favorite character in this series. Really looking forward to the next one whenever it comes out.

Might be a case of just not for me, but I found this a brutal, cruel, and voyeuristic book.

Getting tired of the same themes - women getting violently raped and killed. I know it’s realistic and actually happens but  non-female victims also exist

I was lucky enough to get an ARC from ~NetGalley and then doubled my luck by winning a paperback ARC from the Publisher via a newsletter competition!

I hadn't read a Will Trent book before but have read other books by the authors.  Then I watched and loved the TV series. Whilst book Will and TV Will do not look alike I still got the same vibe from them (although I must admit I think TV Will is now "my Will" in my head!!!)

Will and Sara are settling into their new engagement but trauma from Sara's past has come back to haunt her via an old case now at trial.  Sara recognises the parallels between Dani's case and her own rape.  Her rapist had gone to jail so why are there so many links between the cases.

Faith is also struggling with motherhood second time around and her fling with an FBI agent isn't the well-kept secret they thought it was!

The storyline is well crafted and the trauma Sara overcame is dealt with realistically and with care.  Whilst the SA scenes are never gratuitous, there may be readers for whom this may be too much to read.  I felt Sara was empathetic and strong and Will was her perfect foil.  Faith is the mistress of multi-tasking and she has done such a good job of raising her son, essentially only with her tribe of LEO family for support.  Yet she still seems so rocked to the core when her son makes a decision on his future.

Strong, powerful, skincrawling, suspenseful.  There were times I cried for the women traumatised, when I wanted to reach into the book and throttle some characters and the utter revulsion for all things "mixer".  I'll eventually get around to reading all the Will Trent books and I know I'm pretty much going to love them all if they are all this good!

I like Karin Slaughter's books a lot, and this is another great instalment in the Will Trent series. Slightly slower to start than some of the other books, but still an exciting read with plenty of twists and turns. It did start to feel slightly implausible towards the end, but the stakes are so high with Will and Sara's characters that it seems impossible to have them solve a crime that isn't a little bit unbelievable, and I definitely don't read this series for a completely realistic storyline.
