Heavy-handed. My pet peeve: when authors dispose of characters they can't figure out what to do with by killing them.

The characters of eight and sam are amazing and the plot moves at a good pace and packs a lot into a short book.

Jo grants appearance here is very good and a more realistic (yeah I know there are space bull/horse people but it does make sense) effect of her early life and how having a kid would change that. SHe is more hardened and a bit cynical, even killing creatures in a complex situation. This contradicts with her appearance in the SJA in the death of the doctor. Mainly in the form of her only have one child and not the 7 later credited as having and the ages don't quite line up for the rest to be born later. She also was no longer being an activist, though I do believe she would pick that back up eventually.

http://nhw.livejournal.com/525259.html[return][return]The central plot is a set of time paradoxes - will humanity survive, or will we be displaced by humane, environmentally conscious equine quadrupeds who are very reminiscent of Swift's Houyhnhnms? The Doctor has to choose one way or the other, and either way an entire race may be destroyed, hence the genocide of the title. I felt there were one or two problems with the internal chronology of the book which could not be smoothed over by time-travel, and too many cases of a) characters promising not to move from a safe location, then immediately doing so and b) "I'm going to kill you now!" "No you're not." "Okay, I won't kill you now but I might kill you later!" And one plot twist was foreshadowed many years ago by Douglas Adams, but I thought Paul Leonard invested it with a certain dignity (leaving a message in the basalt, surely inspired by the towel in the prehistoric volcano). Overall it was just about worth the

I enjoyed this 8th Doctor novel though it was a more difficult read to get into. I didn't find it all that interesting until the last third of the book or so. Still a good read.

The Human Race has been Exterminated but not from the Daleks.

This story is about the Doctor and Sam landing in the Future Earth but notice that there is no sign or trace of Humans but instead, Earth is being inhabited by an alien race called the Tractites.

This kinda feels all over the place, and I quite understand when people say that this book is confusing as in the first act, scenes jumping from Human extinction era to the time when the Human Race is still around and it goes back and forth and there is this whole multiverse thing when the Human Extinction takes place in an Alternate Reality or is an Alternate Reality, but what I like about the Book is that how the Doctor and Sam's morals are put into a test.

Vampire Science got 3 stars mostly because it was ways better than its predecessor, even though I didn't find the plot all that engaging. But Genocide gets 3 stars because it was an enjoyable read with a dark plot - the title says it all, really.

This was a really surprisingly good book that plays around with timelines in ways that are engaging (something the EDAs don’t always achieve) while not losing track of the characters or plot (ALSO something the EDAs don’t always achieve). I loved Eight in it, I’m really liking Sam even if I also want to scream you’re a CHILD about twice a book, and Jo made a guest appearance!
