So cute, the drawings especially. I wish it was a little bit longer but it’s still special.

I think this is a great city book. The ending was a very pleasant surprise! The art is reminiscent of Ezra Jack Keats' books, but Christian Robinson used "acrylic paint, collage, and a bit of digital manipulation."

Newbery Medal Winner 2016
Caldecott Honor Book 2016
It is truly wonderful when the search for diversity in books can be answered with truly great books. It touches on diversity on so many levels: race, religion, socio-economic. It's story is about volunteerism, and the writing is magnificent enough to value the characters of those serving and those served, even in the short words of a picture book. All of this is done from a relatable and genuine child's point of view. The pictures add so much to the story and the tone, and both committees did an excellent job in honoring this book. I'm so glad to see the Newbery committee honoring the entire stretch of what is supposed to be included in its consideration.

This was so sweet. A child with a the "Whys" in the world and a grandmother who has all the patience to answer them.
