I need to make some things clear before I really go i to this review. I loved the concept of this book. The story of medusa and ones that are similar need more representation. But for me I felt like the characters in the story were lacking depth and the world building just didn’t feel complete. I didn’t get any attachments to the characters because I felt like I couldn’t visualize them. Like if they were in today’s world, what would they do if they went to the fair? What kind of pets world they have? I wish I could have gotten a little more interactions between the two love interests, because to me it felt like they met a couple times but nothing incredibly deep, yes, they did talk about their childhoods and bonded over trauma but it feels like there wasn’t any other scenes where it was just them getting to know each other. For these reasons I’m not going to be reading the next book in this series.

It’s a heavy book with a really heavy topic so PLEASE BE WARNED but honestly the thing I didn’t like was just that this was written in a YA way, which is fine because that’s what it was! I’m just like 15 years too old and found certain dialogue and actions kinda cringey but if I was 17 I would have eaten this up. I believe it’s going to be a series so I will for sure be checking out the second book
