this NY times review about sums up everything I love about this: “what separates Clowes is this perfect interplay between his tightly controlled artwork, the empty rage simmering just beneath it, and just below that, a strangely simple yearning for simple and solid things, like, say, love.”

If you liked Charles Burns' Black Hole, this is an almost perfect readalike. (Neither are appropriate for a school library, though--waay too explicit.)

Basically the talented Mr. Ripley in comic book format.

I liked David Boring, but on the beauty of the book emerged when I read it a second time. Weirdly I kept thinking that I was reading a classic french novel. Reading this book is akin to reading an apple and finding out that bit don't taste very good but you keep on with the task because it's better to finish everything

All the reviews say "don't read it while you're on the bus!!!" so I'm guess I'm lucky that I read it on a tram instead.
