This book had me feeling all the emotions. From sadness, to anger, to more sadness and to hopefulness, I didn’t want this book to end but at the same time, I needed to know what happened. I understand the hype. This was my first adult fantasy book and it did not disappoint!!

Okay look, I really struggled through the first 45% of this book bc it was so boring and Feyre was so annoying and dumb. Like, I wanted to bang my head against a wall for how boring and slow moving the first almost half of this book was. Like, let's be real, it didn't get interesting until Rhys showed up. All the action is packed into the last half of the book, so much so that the book could have easily been like 50 pages shorter and done the same thing.
A lot of stuff just doesn't make sense with Feyre as a character: why does she not feel any anger towards her family for treating her poorly and not appreciating her? Why does she only use her survival instincts and hunting knowledge occasionally? Why does she act like she's being held captive when they were nothing but nice to her???
But the story definitely got better in the second half, and was saved by Lucien and Rhys. I'm only giving it more than 3 ⭐ bc of those two.
Definitely a bit cheesy at times, you can definitely see the Beauty and the Beast retelling throughout, but I think it was done fairly well overall (again, if the beginning was shorter and Feyre plugged in her brain, it would have gotten like 4.5 stars)

I get the hype now, though. Im excited to see where this series goes.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is weighed down by the plodding (roughly) first half of the book, which meanders about with no real purpose. If you read a summary of the first half and skip to the second half, you'll have approximately the same reading experience as someone who read through the entire book.

I honestly wasn’t impressed by this book. If you’re looking for something that has a lot of common basic tropes crammed into a fantasy book, this kind of nails it. If you’re looking for something fresh and exciting, I wouldn’t recommend it based on this first book in the series. That being said, I might give book 2 a try since I’ve heard a lot of people say to push through to that one and it picks up. It might be worth the time eventually, we’ll see.

Tamlin is Howl from Howl’s moving castle. I feel like this is gonna turn in to a love triangle and that’s rough because a. Tamlin is great, he’s a protector and believes in her and supports her and I like him a lot. And b. I’m monogamous and do not support cheating in anyway and for this to become a love triangle with Rhys something sad would have to happen.

Rhys is great too, and I like enemies to lovers tropes so them together would probably be more interesting. If she chooses him won’t the love of this book be for naught? She does everything out of love for Tamlin.
