It's a series that balances sincere and satirical in a way that mostly works. Personally, I enjoyed the satirical, "Crazy Rich" aspects of the story more than the grounded, straight-men characters we spend most our time with.

Each book follows two or three plotlines of varying prominence, which mostly exist independently with the odd intersection. The benefit of this is that if one plotline is not working for you, it can pretty easily be skipped without consequence (it's Astrid. Astrid rarely add anything to the other plots, or to the books in general). However, only the third book really tied these threads together in a satisfying way (except for Astrid, imo. My opinion is biased: I hated her and her plotline in every book).

This is a series for you if you like rich people hijinks, elaborate descriptions of food, morally grey/kind-of-dickish characters, and family drama.
