I don't buy many cookbooks. It seems ridiculous to devote precious shelf space to them, since every recipe under the sun seems to be available online. This one I bought. Many's the time I find myself with a sudden, unexpected baking commitment-- forgotten birthday at work, impromptu friends gathering-- and the last thing I want to do is make an extra grocery run. (Have I mentioned that on most days, I'd rather go to the dentist than to a supermarket? The line is SO much shorter, and nobody runs into me with a cart.)

This book provides a lovely selection of recipes that not only take just a few ingredients, but they're ingredients that I'm likely to already have on hand.

I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but when the next baking emergency presents itself, I'll know what to do.
