It started very good, but then the ending gave me a confused slap. I didn’t get the ending at all. It had me at first, but in the end.. I dunno?

Was everything made up? Was there a poltergeist or not? Was Bee the ghost? Or was everything a childish game? Wtf?

The Wayward Girls are split in two timelines.

One follows the young adolescents Bee & Loo, and their family, as they move to isolated Iron Sike Farm in the 1970s. Quickly mysterious and unsettling things start to occur and attract the attention of a local photographer and a group of paranormal investigators.

The other follows adult Lucy, seemingly isolated from the rest of her family while her mother is living in a care home for her burgeoning dementia. When she discovers a group of students want to investigate the farms’ events of the 1970s; everything begins to become unwound.

Highly suggestive of the “Enfield Poltergeist” case (aka the Conjuring II)

The plot is creepy and slowly paced. The ending stitched it all together but I found myself nearly DNF’ing a few times before it got there.

This felt unfinished. At the end, there were still many unresolved issues and plot holes.

I enjoyed the beginning and the middle of this but I kinda knew what was coming in the end and felt it all fall rather flat when it played out the way it did. It was well written and quite spooky but I feel like the characters and story could have been more flushed out to make it a more engaging, and complete, story.

Honestly this should have been so good but it was just not quite there. I’m not sure why as the elements to it should have made for a proper scary read!!

The spirit voice was proper scary though!
