This a short pretty generic YA? fantasy read. Since it's short I can't really say it's not worth at reading. I didn't absolutely hate it, it was just way too bland for me to positively receive it.
Art: The art's pretty good, there is effort in it. But I'm not a fan of the style. Also the permenant blush doesn't really fit the feel of the comic. The characters seem to have kinda generic fantasy designs. The clothing design is nice though, has a bit of spice to it. The art itself is pretty beautiful despite it's scratchier and somewhat limited style. It does have nice colors at least. As a cartoonist myself I can't really decide if I love the art or not, I'll give it a 6.
Character: The characters are honestly quite bland. Evony is your standard fantasy heroine, the most interesting thing about her is that she wields two khopeh (at least I believe that's what she has). The comic is short so of course, that might be the reason why she's so standard. But they do spend time on her (forgive me) generic and uninteresting backstory. Rather than giving her a more interesting character. Being a great warrior shouldn't be someone's only trait.
The prince, who's name has slipped my mind, also suffers the same fate, though he does have that much screentime. He has some semblence of a character with his views as a prince, which I appreciate when writers expand on their royal/leader characters like that. But it's not really... enough? It's just a standard I must protect my land. The little romance arc with him could have been erased too. I love romance, but not every lead has to have some romantic plot which eachother. Anyways his character design is soooo bland.
The antagonist's are bland too. The best thing they have going for them is their heart-based magic, which sounds cool but since there's not too much magic building here it's just a cool concept.
HOWEVER... the are two side characters who's names again slipped by mind, they are a witch and her guard. I love the guard, he's bursting with personality and charm. I'd rather read these two's stories than Evony's.
Story: The story concept/ the blurb on the back is probably cooler than the story itself. However it's really just another standard hero goes on a quest and has a half arsed arc at the end. The world's and characters are too bland for me to get invested, even then the stakes don't feel urgent enough. The prince is just bedridden until the spell kicks in, rather than like actually being a feral beast now. Would bring more stakes and actual emotion to the story. So yeah it's just really bland, they do try to spice it up by changing the atmosphere but really it's nothing special. The princess's B plot is also unintresting as well, just seems like padding time. And there's two twists I can think of that are just not built on enough. A character's betrayl and a character's backstory revealed. Just kinda throwing things at a wall there.
Really it kinda ends as a nothing little fantasy romp. Character goes through a budget hero's journey, the end.
But because it's so short, does have some good moments, and pretty good art, I would reccomend it, if not just to critique it mindlessly.

Not very well written. The concept is there and has promise, but the storytelling was choppy and not very cohesive. It just jumps from plot point to plot point with no transitions or build-up. If this one book had been split into 2 to allow the story to be more fleshed out, it would've been better.
Moderate: Violence and Gore
Minor: Abandonment

It takes and takes and takes and gives NOTHING in return.

I didn’t like that none of the female characters seemed to like each other and I didn’t like some of the pacing between panels. I didn’t like the sorta one dimensional portrayal of witches, nor did I really like the romance… but I liked the aesthetic so much I’m giving it a 4 anyway

This graphic novel takes place in a world with witches, who use hearts for their magic. When they take a heart, they leave behind a shell that turns into their familiars. Honestly there wasn’t much for me to enjoy in this one. It’s fairly short and within the first 6 pages we surge forward in time 3 times. It’s jarring to say the least. Nothing is really explained and the art does nothing to further the explanation of what’s happening. I felt very confused and lost the entire time I was reading it. I was hoping for some explanation in the end but I didn’t get any, if anything I was left with even more questions. I’m not sure if re-reading it would help or not, but I don’t think I care enough to try. Next…

I really did enjoy this novel. my only thing about it is that the pacing was really fast, because of this the relationships seemed rushed, and the characters didn't have a lot of time to explore their own feelings (Apart from the MC). I do hope there is more, though it doesn't say anywhere that there is a sequel planned, but the ending the book had, I would be disappointed if there wasn't one
